  • DST

Since DST I have not been in bed before 10:30. Insane. This has got to stop.

  • Run Skirts

The skirts finally arrived but they were damaged. These are two I liked. The company's customer service, skirtsports, has been good.

  • GF foods

I wish I didn't know about gf baked goods. Weight is creeping up again :( A sugar detox is what my body needs. Right now it's craving it. My produce box can't come soon enough.

  • Grumble

I ordered a bunch of running skirts to try out and if I decide on one, wear for my first half marathon on Sunday. I ordered the skirts last week and they said they'd arrive on the 15th, but seem to have been lost in transit! Will have to call the company soon. They responded to my email from Saturday and will look into the status of the shipment.

  • First evening of busy bee

I was wait listed second in line for body pump class but then people dropped out. So I went! :) I did light weights again to not stress my body too much as I work up the mileage for the half training.

Then I got home to put my motorcycle away and the garage door opener was broken, jumping (I'm short) to grab the handle and it sliced through the skin of my fingers in three places. This is the first time I didn't tend to wound straight away and thus bled enough to drip. I was outside bleeding with gear and bags and helmet and the first attempt at closing door was unsuccessful. I was at a loss as to what to tend to first, myself or trying to get the garage closed.

  • Busy Bee and social butterfly

At the same time as feeling anxious, I'm filling up my evenings and weekends with stuff and people.

Really looking forward to hiking with the See Jane Run group. My guess is it will be about 1.5 hours. Then I have to squeeze in a 4 mile run with a timed mile if possible. Then really looking forward to bowling on a REAL lane with a couple of folks. This is all just Saturday's plans!

The bowling league I'm on right now is at a bowling lane in the city and has short lanes with not enough room between the lane and the ball return AND the pins are on strings! My two girl friends and I are going to sign up for a league at a different set of lanes next time (REAL lanes). It's further from my place and harder for me to get to it, but at least they will be real lanes. And I get to see my gal pals every week =)

Tonight is a big debate about what I want to do.
    • Stay at work with the guys while they perform the infrastructure maintenance or
    • go to bodypump class, or
    • go home to try on new running skirts and choose one to wear tomorrow hiking (have to make sure it doesn't chafe) or
    • something else (sleep)?!

I'm leaning toward bodypump even though it may make me sore for the hike, the run, and bowling tomorrow. The saying "I'll rest when I'm dead" comes to mind!

  • Anxiety

I just get so anxious when I am hanging out with people. This is something I haven't tuned into but it's been happening for all my life. I think I deal with it better now than I used to, but would be nice if I could cope even more with it.

Walking down the street with another person, I feel like I have to walk fast and keep up with blinders on. When I walk alone, I take my time and soak in all my surroundings.

    Very curious about this.

  • Running

I signed up for the Oakland half (I'll run 11 miles and walk 2.1 miles) on March 24th and also booked a plane flight and bib for the May 4th race in Indiana with my sister. I'm excited!

I'm also negotiating a raise... we'll see. I've never done this before. Tips?

  • Breakdown

    See previous post for context.

May - half marathon with sister for her birthday - friends birthday
    2 days = $374 flight
    3 days = $338 flight
    Difference: $36

July - Oregon to visit both sisters
    6 days = $231 OAK / $257 SFO
    5 days = $231 OAK / $297 SFO

    Changes to vacation plan:
2-3 days in May (3 days = $36 less for flight) for half marathon in Indiana with my sister, which coincides with her birthday along with my friend's, EJ's birthday.
2 days in July to spend with friend, EJ, who will be visiting in SF - whoo hoo motorcycle riding!
5 days in July (6 days = less $ for flight from SFO) for visiting sister in Oregon which I promised oregon sister that I'd do this year (Indiana sister will also be visiting oregon sister at the same time).

Vacation allocation: 9.78 days (may be able to fudge or "go negative" the extra hours to make it a full 10 days)

My boss is finding out if I can go 'negative' with vacation, and he also proposed working remotely one day, which I could do in oregon if needed.

So it looks like I can go to run a half marathon with my sister in May!

Now, should I run 11 miles and walk 2.1 miles of a half marathon on March 24th? =) or leave my 'first' half marathon to be the one I run with my sister?

  • Need advice

I need some other minds to help me with this because I'm just not seeing how this can work.

    Desired vacations:
2-3 days in May (3 days = less $ for flight) for half marathon in Indiana with my sister, which coincides with her birthday along with my friend's, EJ's birthday.
2-3 days in July to spend with friend, EJ, who will be visiting in SF - whoo hoo motorcycle riding!
5-6 days in July (6 days = less $ for flight) for visiting sister in Oregon which I promised oregon sister that I'd do this year (Indiana sister will also be visiting oregon sister at the same time).

Vacation allocation: 9.78 days (may be able to fudge or credit the extra hours to make it a full 10 days)

I also have sick time: 6.9 days

If I use sick time, do I tell my boss I'm using sick time ahead of time or do I just call in sick those days?

The big question is, do I fly to Indiana for a half marathon... the largest in the nation, with bands every mile, and all the fan fare of a GREAT organized race, that is on my sister's birthday and that she too is running the half marathon? That seems to be the low hanging fruit ($$) but also the one I want to do most badly (for all selfish reasons).

What should I do?? Plane flights are only getting more expensive and who knows when the half marathon will sell out.
