  • iOS app

I built my first iOS app at the meetup the other night :) I'm so glad I went! The ladies were nice and this is really giving me an idea of what effort my app idea will take.

There were many factors into logistics of getting my butt to the meetup. I could take public transit, but it would be late coming home and the buses/trains are less frequent so not ideal. I could ride my motorcycle but it wasn't the best place to leave my bike and I'm not a fan of riding at night. What I needed was something comfortable to get me to go someplace uncomfortable - a security blanket if you will.

I said to myself "times like these I really wish I had a car", then I exclaimed "I DO!". I rented a zipcar for the night (there is a 6pm - 8:30am deal) and I was able to get a bang for my buck! I could visit Luv for the evening and when all the ladies were talking about leaving, I told one lady I could give her a ride to caltrain, but then talking some more, I offered a ride to the caltrain by Luv's place which would at least save her money if not get her home faster. =)

  • Relationships

I started texting with a guy from eHarmony this week. Then tonight Luv and I had a conversation, which for a moment, made me question if I really want any type of relationship where I'm emotionally invested in what the other person has to say.

Maybe this time will be different? Maybe I'll see the signs early.

Taking things slow. Texting for now. No plans to meet just yet.

Learning about each other. There are many commonalities with Woodside guy.

    Motorcycles
    Rock climbing
    Running
    Not allergic to cats
    Farming/gardening
    Shooting guns at the range
    Food
    Sweets
    Tinkering
    Techy
    Humor
Interested in personal growth (books and knowledge)
    Loss of friend to suicide
    ...just to name a few

There are a number of clashes to be worked out.

    Dogs
    Kids
... ya know the big stuff.

  • 12.5 miles today

In the future I will schedule a nap on my calendar for days I run 10+ miles :) instead of napping I chugged two glasses of tea and went bowling - this was the final night for the league.

The opposing team left after one game so we started playing on their lane in addition to ours. Good times. I tried a cradling curve ball for the first time.

  • Getting my foot out the door

There is an iOS women's meetup group tonight. I want to build my own iPhone app, I have the design and idea all planned out. This would be a good starting point to get and idea of what I'm in for.

It's just hard going to some place new and different.

We'll see which side of me wins out, the scare-dy cat or the I am woman hear me rawr side.

  • Trouble finding the right audience

So I'm posting it here, for you guys!!

So I had a phone interview with the hiring manager today for OneAmerica, this is the same company I had the interview with the HR person last week for.

">The position is almost exactly what I'm looking for, a web development role dealing with CMS, search and analytics. The only downfall is I'd be managing people, but who knows, maybe I'd be good at it. Oh and it's in a place that gets snow. =/

The hiring manager talked about flying me out there for an in person interview. This means I have to really decide if it's what I want. I love SF and would hate to move away from here, but getting a web development position here is tough - there is so much talent here. Though, I've had the thought of trying to find small companies that may want a developer with not as much experience, but then again, would they pay me enough?

I've started a spread sheet with weights to see if it's worth it.

  • My birthday

My birthday was pretty darn awesome. I didn't get a super awesome gift nor do anything thrilling, however, many people wished me a happy birthday which is pretty special in my book. Wearing a button that says birthday princess helps with that. ;)

I picked up a gluten free bagel (delicious), and gf snickerdoodles before work. I was sang happy birthday twice and one time was complete with someone playing piano on an iPad he brought specially for the occasion. My coworkers also bought me gluten free cupcakes - which everyone liked and couldn't believe they were gluten free - and I went out to a very lovely dinner of porterhouse steak and shoe string fries. The evening weather was perfect for dressing up.

I also got to leave work early and was able to dust, vacuum and wash the floors before dinner - I love having a clean house. When I arrived home I had a bouquet of flowers waiting for me from my dear friend in Indiana. I'll get to see him in May.

That's a virgin peach Bellini in the picture. Non-alcoholic drinks are the way to go, no headache the next day and cheaper!

  • Not a fan

Really, I'm not a fan of gluten nor dairy. This week I felt miserable. Today the worst after having dairy on Friday night. My neck has been tight, my foot and calves are showing signs of inflammation, headaches have been almost constant and today my nose stuffed up.

I really did enjoy eating the Christmas cookies out of the freezer that my sister sent me back in Dec. And eating REAL ice cream on my birthday along with strawberry cheesecake was heavenly. I now realize the impact these can have on me.

Splurging on two donuts every couple of months is ok but I've become pretty relaxed with the diet lately. This goes for sweets too.

I've been hoarding. My freezer is packed full of gluten free treats. I gave away a couple of Christmas cookies and Girl Scout cookies to people at work so I could have more room.

  • Mental notes

Take a day off after a half marathon to sleep and try to nap a few hours after as well.

Also, my parents do not congratulate me on half marathon achievement.

  • Red's life of graphs

    Direct relationship
X axis on increasing scale = impact on me when the person says "I'm proud of you"

Y axis on increasing scale = how much respect I have for that person.

  • I'm ready for the half!

I bought a shirt that says 13.1 on it :) I'm so proud of myself. Three years of new knowledge acquired and another achievement because of it.

Painted my nails pink to go with the outfit.
